‘Your Honour’ and ‘Love Letters’ selected for Cannes Docs 2025: Docs in Progress
We are excited to announce that two Randan projects, Your Honour and Love Letters, have been selected to participate in the Cannes Docs 2025: Docs in Progress Showcase, as a part of the Scottish Showcase supported by Scottish Documentary Institute and Screen Scotland.
Each year, Cannes Docs collaborates with institutions and organizations worldwide to feature handpicked documentaries in the midst of editing or post-production, set to make their festival debut in the coming weeks or months.
Both of the teams: Reece Cargan and Bircan Birol (producer and director of Your Honour respectively) and James Heath and Danny Cook (producer and director of Love Letters respectively) will pitch the projects to the panel and present a 10 minute excerpt of the films.
Your Honour still
Your Honour tells a story of a trans law student Efruz who lives under constant threat to her safety and well-being in today's Turkey. Her friend Bircan films Efruz over the years as her dream of becoming a human rights lawyer is challenged more than ever, and where the two friends find hope from the past, in friendship and resistance infused with laughter. The film is developed with Screen Scotland and selected as a project at the 2024 IDFA Forum.
Love Letters still
Love Letters is a portrait of people living on the fringes of the North East Coast, each taking time to reflect on relationships and the importance of community in hard times. The project is backed by Screen Scotland and BFI Doc Society, as well as a part of IDFA Academy.
Aside from presenting in front of potential partners, the teams will compete for a chance of winning one of the several awards including IEFTA Award (€10,000 cash prize and project follow-up by IEFTA – The International Emerging Film Talent Association), Al Jazeera Documentary Award (Al Jazeera Documentary to come in as co-producer, with a minimum contribution of $15,000), Chicken & Egg Vision Award (Presented to a woman or gender-expansive filmmaker whose film offers a creative vision and the potential to create change.
