Randan at SQIFF

We’re excited to announce two of Randan’s Shorts have been programmed in Official Competition at the 2024 SQIFF (Scottish Queer International Film Festival)!

Both films are in competition to win the title of Best Scottish Short. The winner will be announced at the closing screening of SQIFF 2024.

‘Just Jackie’, directed by Michael Lee Richardson, written by Ali Taylor, and produced by Randan’s James Heath and Reece Cargan will screen at SQIFF. Alongside Just Jackie, the Randan exec-produced ‘Hot Young Geek Seeks Blood Sucking Freak,’ by writer/director Heath Virgoe, produced by Niamh West will also screen at the ninth edition of the festival. This year’s SQIFF will take place from October 8th- 12th. The festival will kick off with an opening night of shorts where you can see both films starting at 8:20 p.m. at the Glasgow Film Theatre and will be followed by a Q&A after the screening.

‘Just Jackie,’ is a coming-of-age short film about the joyful and exuberant world of nine-year-old Jackie, who loves lip-synching, sweeties and trying on his Mum’s clothes. Jackie dreams of winning the approval of Tegan, the girl next door - and won’t let the Scottish weather or health-conscious Mum stand in the way. With a delicious candy-coloured palette and 90s aesthetic, Just Jackie is a queer, quirky, bubblegum pop fantasy about friendship and self-acceptance for anyone who’s ever used their toothbrush as a microphone.

‘Hot Young Geek Seeks Blood Sucking Freak,’ is a short horror-comedy about vampires, pizza, and coming out. When best friends Max and Ricky find themselves the prey of an angry vampire, they must ditch their Halloween plans to hide out at home. But when a forgotten pizza delivery shows up, can they risk letting the driver in? Can they stop arguing with each other? And can Max find the courage to face the one thing worse than death - coming out?
